Archaeology is Not Plastic
After investing in months and months of sleepless nights, anxiety and expensive tickets to fly back home to Manila, we at EdgyEcology, Inc., found ourselves partying to the astounding samba beats of Brigada while filling our tummies with enticing appetizers and dessert at the Archaeology wing at Power Plant Mall.
The occasion?
We finally launched our maiden venture –the Not Plastic Project — at the Archaeology wing of the Power Plant Mall last July 25, 2007.
It all stemmed from our first goal of coming up with reusable bags that consumers will want to purchase, not only because they’re “so now” or “in” but because they’re practical yet stylish enough for them to sustain the habit of being ecologically smart, which could actually save the environment from what could be one of the biggest causes of global disasters (the use and misuse of plastic bags). And as we finally produced a few pieces of our bags, Irene Pineda of Irene’s Closet and the Power Plant staff supported the cause by selling them giving us the proper launch. The Power Plant group also wanted to show that Archaeology, a wing that has gathered independent and one-of-a-kind designers, is not just a mecca for the fashion forward, but a group that does its part to be pro-environment as well (hooray for them!).
Hence, “Archaeology Is Not Plastic” happened and we were touched to see our friends, families, artists, press and the rest of the crowd give support to the cause that night. Aside from an intense performance by samba percussionists Brigada, the program, hosted by RX 93.1 DJ Francesca, continued to entertain that night with Spoken Word artists who rendered their witty pieces while guests munched on divine cocktails by Delicioso catering and Mary Grace’ yummy pastries.
And it didn’t stop there, for the rest of the week, we left a unique exhibit that displayed photos of our celebrity campaign and young artists’ interpretation of the Not Plastic Project. Celebrities who lent their precious time to show support to the cause and their help to the environment include Agot Isidro-Sandejas, Tintin Bersola-Babao, Anne Curtis, Maricel Laxa, Angel Aquino, Angel Jacob, Rafael Rosel, Juddha Paolo, Victor Basa, Carla Humphries, and even bands like Rivermaya, Hale and a lot more. Not to mention our photographer friends who shared their expertise like Erik Liongoren, Dix Perez, Emilio Esguerra, Migs Castro, Darwin Ramos and Jeffrey Sonora.
At present, we’re delighted that a lot of people continue to support the cause—those of you who have helped sustain the company, those who helped us in the event (physically, emotionally and mentally!), those who have purchased the bags, and the retailers who believe in our vision, THANK YOU A percentage of the sales will go to a beneficiary that supports the movement (do email us for inquiries at info@notplasticproject.com). As of now, you can purchase the bags at the Archaeology wing of the Power Plant Mall, Rockwell – stores include Aranaz (sold out), Ilaya, Irene’s Closet, Maud, Dressing Room, Sapato Manila, Ruth and Esther, Luca, Analog Soul, Marni’s Room.
